Delhi

Delhi has introduced a new heat action plan (HAP) to safeguard vulnerable populations during extreme heatwaves. The plan includes measures such as ensuring continuous power supply to health facilities such as hospitals and clinics, daily surveying of vulnerable locations, adjusting school timings, and curtailing non-essential water use. The Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) crafted this strategy to combat the city's susceptibility to heatwaves, which disproportionately impact lower-income groups due to the large population. As part of the plan, a pilot project is proposed to paint roofs white in identified areas to maintain cooler indoor temperatures. The plan relies on heatwave forecasts from the India Meteorological Department to issue color-coded alerts and awaits the appointment of a nodal officer for implementation.
